Last night's Redskins game was very exciting. Our seats are one row down from the top of the stadium and it was a packed house:
I am now the proud owner of an RGIII jersey. We chose that player because not only is he the team star, he's the only player whose name I knew going into the game. It was late and extremely cold (in the 20s F) so I had to eventually wrap my face in wool:
Across the aisle from us was a group of Dallas fans in full gear and unabashedly hammered. I say unabashedly because one of them toppled down the stairs. He was fine, got up and went to the bathroom. When he came back, though, it was apparent that he'd urinated all over himself. Meh, it's fine, get him another beer. He fell a couple more times and we had a security guard near us, who finally had to take action (reluctantly), when Al (Kuhhawlick) vomited all over the row in front of him. Our security guard had to call up attendants, medics and the fire department to take him out. He couldn't walk, he had to be carried down in a special chair fitted to roll down the hand rails and then convert to a wheelchair once they got to the ramp. I was annoyed that I'd been using my legs like a chump when this option was available all along. Everyone, including this guy's friends, stayed glued to the game while this was all happening. Firemen paused in their work on Al to periodically high-five us, say "this is awesome" and snap pictures of the field. Al's friends asked for a "check" ticket to pick him up at the end of the game. My husband was concerned that Al was a lucky charm for the Redskins because the Cowboys scored another field goal shortly after the fire department dragged him away. My husband wanted Al dragged back up. I told my mom about it this morning and she wanted to know if anyone filmed it and put it on Youtube so she could see it. Heh. My mom.
Turned out it wasn't necessary to bring Al back because the Cowboys were never able to gain enough points to take the lead and then there was a game-changing penalty followed by an interception by Rob Jackson, who is from my hometown of West Haven, CT -or, as it's also known -Waste Haven and West Hay HAYYYY. It's a tough town, but don't trash talk it or I'll punch you in the face. The Skins scored again, solidified their lead and won their first division title since 1999. The excitement was infectious, I jumped up and down cheering and hugged the stranger next to me. This is only about the third NFL game I found to be exciting, but now I'll be a Redskins fan to support my husband. In return, he doesn't know this yet, but he's going to read my top ten favorite books of 2012. One of them is called Vagina and it's a memoir. Happy New Year!
