Things You Don't Want To Hear When Trying To Get Your Book Published

If 50 Shades Of Gray got published, you probably can, too.

I noticed this has a good noun to adjective ratio.

Have you ever read Twilight?

But then what?

So what do you do for a living?

I liked the title. The rest needs work.

Would I have picked this up on my own if you hadn't asked me to read it? No, probably not, but some other idiot might.

So how about this weather we're having?

Wow, looks like you had some time to kill!

Rejection in any walk of life is difficult, but you have to face it if you really want anything worth having. I haven't read 50 Shades of Gray, but from what I understand, it seems like it was written by a 4th grader with lots of carnal knowledge. I also haven't read Twilight because I only have room for one set of feuding werewolves and vampires and that's True Blood. I sort of felt the same way about Sex In The City because I loved The Golden Girls so much that I didn't have room for another show about women getting laid a lot and not really having jobs. I just "finished" my third round of editing on a book I've been working on and now I have to get out of my chair and go con someone into publishing it. The rejections are slowly trickling in and it should be a fun game for you, three to five people that read this blog, to watch my plummeting self-esteem translate to the blog. Enjoy that.

  1. A good noun to adjective ratio is infinitely better than a good verb to adverb ratio - that would just be sloppy writing. I personally can't wait to read it.

  2. I'm disappointed you didn't include the email where I just replied, in red, 128 pt font: "NO."

  3. But then, you get to look at that video of corgi puppies and it must make everything seem ok. Good luck.

  4. Kate, Excellent point and I will now take that comment as a compliment, if I ever get it. J. Wo -I can't keep track of all of your angry red emails. Dunkie-I took my own video of our litter and have watched it about 3,657 times. I'm also newly addicted to Grumpy Cat.
