Very talented dudes who famously did something very bad. Let's look at where they're different: who paid the highest price for their crime? What lesson can we take away from that? Keep your hands off the dogs, but you can beat the crap out of any woman you want and still play the Grammys and be top of the charts.
I heard someone say it was because Chris Brown beat a woman of color that he didn't take much flack for the Rihanna incident. O.J. Simpson says that dog won't hunt.
Let's look at some other examples of domestic violence that we conveniently forgot about:
Sean Penn vs. Madonna - he pleaded to a misdemeanor. Reminder: Michael Vick went to prison for abusing dogs.
Charlie Sheen - the man's face gets spread around on t-shirts and has a catch phrase that should have died already, but I still hear "Winning" too often. Michael Vick lost all of his sponsors and almost wasn't let back into football.
Mel Gibson - accused of slapping around his ex and she dropped the charges. To be fair, this one wasn't exactly proven, but at this point in Mel Gibson's public life, I'd be willing to believe that he got hungry on a plane and ate somebody's baby.
According to domestic violence research, do you know what the number one day of the year is for reports of domestic abuse? Based on 10 years of research, it's Super Bowl Sunday. How dare you?
This all infuriates me so much I could splutter out coffee in rage, but I really like coffee and I don't want to waste it. The cycle of abuse involves 2 decision makers - most women return to an abusive boyfriend or spouse an average of 7 times before breaking free (or being killed). Men decide to abuse and frankly, who doesn't do bad things when you know you're kinda going to get away with it? According to the FBI, 1/3 of female homicide victims are murdered by someone they know intimately well. For men that statistic is 3%.
I don't watch the Grammys because they're boring and I don't care, but I'm angry that Chris Brown performed. I'm angry that Sean Penn, Charlie Sheen, Chris Brown, O.J. Simpson and Mel Gibson can walk around and play golf and ride jet skis. I feel a little sorry for Michael Vick. When it comes to gender issues, I'm angry at a lot of things: burkas, honor killings, cheerleaders (Dance Moms coach calls this shaking pom-poms so some boy can go to college for free), making less money than men for doing the same work, menstrual cramps and politicians who get in trouble for not keeping it in their pants.
KEEP YOUR LAWS OFF MY BODY AND DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO.
