A Weekend Jaunt To Kill The Healthy Eating Streak

I spent the weekend in Chicago and had my first experience with deep dish pizza. I live in New Haven, Conn., so I was basically comparing this:

To this:

Verdict? Deep dish pie isn't real pizza. It was delicious and I enjoyed it, but it's not a reasonable comparison to make. Thanks for the treat, though, Chicago. Upon returning to the hotel, we debated for two hours about whether or not to go to the bakery around the corner and get dessert. We did not. Whenever I accidentally miss a work-out or engage in unhealthy behavior, I tell myself "you can't gain 50 pounds in a day" and sometimes, it's just fun to prove myself wrong.

The other thing I did while in Chicago was visit the Museum of Science and Industry for the sole purpose of touring a German U-505 submarine they have on display. It is a genuine U-boat captured by an American task force during WWII off the coast of Africa, one of 5 left above the water out of a fleet of more than 1,000 and when I finally got right up to this:

I had a nerdgasm. I've been itching to see this sub for a few years and was pumped to finally get there. So pumped that during the guided and timed tour, I wedged myself into the back of the first room to get a picture of Nazi beds surrounding this torpedo:

Unfortunately, when I looked up and turned around, I was behind a bunch of old people and small children and the tour guide gave us 60 seconds to get to the next room before a re-enactment of the Nazi's capture would begin. I panicked and it took all of the willpower I had not to punch a small child to get to that re-enactment faster, but I held it together and missed the first 10 seconds. It's ok. This museum was one of the best science museums I've ever been to, and the U-boat tour was spectacular and met all expectations for awesomeness. I also learned about space:

Then I learned about Agriculture:

Then some general science-y museum-y information:

It's a great city, my second visit, and I had a blast. My only remaining question is who is buying these and why?

So many unanswered questions about the practicality of this choice. . .
