Mayor Bloomberg Wants To Cure Our Bad Habits Like Big Gulps and Guns

A New York State Supreme Court Judge shot down the Mayor and Health Department's ban on restaurants peddling oversized sugary beverages to New York City consumers. It was the restaurant lobby like McDonald's and other similar "eateries" that sued to fight the ban. Bloombito seems to be unaware of the basic ideal that all Americans share, whether fat, thin, Republican or Democrat or smart enough to know that both parties are evil: NOBODY likes to be told what to do. His heart and his thinking cap are in the right place. From a financial standpoint - I feel very old school Republican about not being in the same insurance pool as people who don't take care of themselves. I exercise, eat healthy and don't drink soda or smoke - I don't want to pay for the lack of self control of others, but that is the cost of healthcare at all levels. You spread the risk around, even if the biggest risk is Augustus Gloop and we all know he's going to topple into that chocolate river and die.

Forcing healthier choices on people - or eliminating terrible choices, could help, but whom will it help? Those of us who rarely go to the doctor and don't need to take medicine for hypertension before forty? Those hell bent on eating the worst processed garbage the world offers because it "tastes good?"

Obesity kills thousands a year, but so do cigarettes and peeps still light'em up. The key is to lay eggs in their brains, Bloombito! You have to really lobby the American people to be on your side for a cause before you just start instituting change. People love to make a big fuss about a problem, but then have things stay exactly the same. . . unless? Associate sugary drinks with terrorists? Accuse sugary drinks of being a part of rape culture? Sugary drinks are all developed in China to make American kids fatter and weaker so that our imperialist hold on the world will soon be vanquished by svelt Communists? Or Russia, you'd just have to poll to see who Americans are more afraid of. It's not that hard!
