Happy Anniversary To Me?

Sunday will be my first anniversary with the dude I once affectionately dubbed Jewish Karl Rove. He pulled me in with his Jewish ancestry and knowledge of Planet of the Apes and I've never looked back.

I've been agonizing over what to give him as an anniversary gift - and by agonizing, I mean someone told me it's a gift-giving occasion and I realized I had to get my shiz together. The first anniversary is paper, which I like because I'm cheap, and I compiled a list of potential gifts:

- a stack of paper airplanes
- Grumpy Cat coffee table book
- a notebook
- a deck of cards
- origami chess set
- my collection of Jehovah's Witness brochures accumulated since moving in together
- toilet paper
- tickets to a monster truck rally
- love coupons that could shut off my nagging about either the toilet or the refrigerator (not to be combined)

He likes getting stuff, but he won't really care (unless it's those cease-nagging coupons) as long as it's not divorce papers or adoption papers for that new kitten I've had my eye on. A year on and things are better than ever. A lot of our wedding gifts didn't last a year - I broke three of them within the first month (I'm clumsy) and I still haven't finished the paperwork to change my name. I'm thinking of changing my first name to "shorty bang bang" and until I decide for sure, thought it best to hold off on the marriage bit, too. My relatives finally stopped shaking his hand at family events and saying "We'll see if we see you again," and I think most of his family members know my name. Monster truck rally it is!
