An Ode To My Grammy

My Grandma has given me a lot of advice over the years, mostly about her two favorite past times: getting married and gambling. It's funny because at thirty two, I don't gamble and I'm always single.

When I was seven, she taught me to play poker and blackjack. She took a lot of pennies from me. She taught me how to deal and kept me honest by continually reminding me, when I flubbed, that I would get my legs broken in Vegas for that kind of mistake. With my romantic troubles, she liked to remind me that men are like buses, you just wait ten minutes and another one will come along, preferably a rich Jewish man. As I got older, she was less inclined to give me advice on men because she said it was too late, I would be better off heading to the sperm bank.

My Grandma is a very strong role model that I have tremendous respect for. She lived through a lot of hard times and made some difficult decisions in her life, but could always crack a joke and move forward to better things. She is the only person I know that would re-microwave microwave popcorn a day after she first made it, convinced that even though it was black and chewy, it was still good. She and grandpa no. 4 have been sick recently and while they have no access to the interweb and won't read this, I just wanted to say how awesome they are.
